The Beauty in Chaos

Nigeria as a country could seem really dysfunctional. Everything is so fast-paced, everyone is almost doing the same thing, and sometimes, it feels like the default emotion shown is anger. However, the past few weeks have shown me a different picture. Even in the midst of this supposed chaos, Nigerians have a way of determining order and ensuring the smooth running of everything, and that is the goal of this post: to show you how beauty still proceeds from "chaos."

Firstly, let me begin by letting you know that Nigeria is one of the most beautiful places to visit. Of course, like every other country, this beautiful nation has its own set of rules and regulations for you to abide by. One common mistake people make is that sometimes, we expect those rules to align exactly with the rules of a different country. I can tell you for free that what works in Nigeria requires "VPN" to work elsewhere 😂.

Now, what are the things that make Nigeria beautiful? Allow me to show you some of the things we all unconsciously agree on:

Have you ever noticed that most one-way roads have no signs that indicate that? You just look, and something in you tells you that road is one-way o 🤣. Isn't that lovely?

One of the most rugged jobs in the country is the National Union of Road Transport Workers (what we call Agbero). However, have you observed that most of those doing the job show up to work in white, sometimes ironed, uniforms? As rough as the work may be, Nigerians still understand steeze.

We all do the same things at exactly the same time. For example, those that live in Lagos leave home by 5 and come back by 9 every weekday. Once you have done this for a week, you'll begin to recognize your neighbours around you. The feeling of family 😊.

We wake up on Monday looking forward to Friday so we can go to a party on Saturday and stay in church on Sunday before we return home to prepare for Monday 😄.

Okay, some of what I've listed feels sarcastic, so let me give some serious instances:

Have you realized that getting lost in Nigeria won't be that easy because you can literally walk up to anybody, and they would always have directions for you? Some would make your journey a bit longer, though.

We trust each other so much that anyone can cook anything in their homes, come out onto the street, and we would queue to purchase it without asking any questions.

If you haven't been to Nigeria yet, you can plan for a visit. Just plan to have a tour guide too because the rules need interpretation. And if you currently live here, then come outside, look up into the sky, and just appreciate the wonderful scenery you see. You were selected as one of the few to witness this beauty in chaos.
